    Quick question -

when doing the half treble do you do an extra stitch into the turning chain like you do for double and treble to keep it straight?

My book says nothing but a video I watched online says you dont

    cheers

The British instructions I use are from an old Crochet book by Emu Wools Ltd., and the following is what they recommend:

A number of chain have to be formed at the beginning of each row so that the hook and yarn are at the right height ready for working the next row. The required number of chains are usually stated in the instructions, but if not the following are recommended:

    Double Crochet – 1 chain
    Half Treble – 2 chain
    Treble – 3 chain
    Double Treble – 4 chain
    Triple Treble – 5 chain

For Double Crochet it is possible to turn with a Double Crochet into first stitch instead of 1 chain, miss first stitch.

The turning chain forms the first stitch of the row. Therefore, no stitch should be worked into the last stitch of the previous row unless it forms an increasing or is part of the pattern. This is usually referred to in the instructions as ‘miss first stitch, double crochet or treble’ according to the pattern worked in the row below.

    Hope this helps.
