How do you guys see this one going, anyone no much about Gonzalez he's undefeated and has a high KO percentage although looking at his record he hasnt faced steller competition, was impressed with Burns in his last fight he showed suprising power that i was not expecting, is Gonzalez being unbeaten misleading is this a handy enough fight for Burns or is Gonzalez a tough test for him

Very hard to tell since I (or most here) know very little about Gonzalez. Irrespective of the quality of opposition, his stats suggest he should be respected. However, I've got more impressed with Burns each fight since he won the SF title and his excellent conditioning, physical strength, smart boxing brain, good chin and discipline mean he's a hard fight for most lightweights.

    Burns by decision most likely.

Burns is one of the most improved fighters in Boxing, a real likeable guy as well. Hope he wins.

Apparently Sky are now showing the fights from 7 pm instead of 8 good news if true shows sky must be having sucess with the viewing figures for undercards of previous shows, Looking forward to the John Simpson Choi fight should be intresting and also the Sweeney fight is on on Tv good news

I'm the same as Johner. Ricky comes across as a likeable guy.
He's come some way over the last few years. Can still remember watchin him against Roman Martinez and thinkin he didn't have a chance.

Wud like to see Vazquez fight after this one.

Does everyone else still have the points rating for fighters and their opponents on Boxrec?

would have loved to see the Jamie McDonnell v Ceja fight on sky aswell, its on Primetime i'd say buys will be pitiful for that.

My double for the night is Burns to win by decision and Ceja to win by KO.

Ye it is a shame alright that the McDonnell fight is on primetime i really dont fancy Jamie to win though never thought he was at World Level think he will get stopped and inside 8 rounds, as for the Burns fight i think the question is more how good is Gonzalez rather then Burns, if Gonzalez is as good as his record and ranking suggests then it will be a tough night for Burns

Boulden won that Brophy got a lucky decision won 4 rounds to 2 Brophy didnt do enough work Boulden got that in my view

Sweeney is in shocking nick, very poor conditioning

You would imagine getting in shape would be the very minimum a lad would do

In view if a fighter comes in out of shape they should not get there full purse Sweeney's conditioning was a disgrace

I've watched Sweeney boxing since he was a kid and to be honest he's always had issues with conditioning. He always had that 'soft' look even as a teenager and IMO could make light-heavy quite comfortably if he really wanted to.

theres soft and then theres having a huge gut like he had tonight. Not everyone is ripped but the lad looks about a stone and half-2 stone over weight

the box stats said it all, outmatched in every aspect, punches thrown, landed, accuracy etc....

sky were certain Simpson had it, can't agree. Close fight though

Hate this rubbish where some suit gives away the decision before the MC even announces it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,443 ✭✭✭califano

Yeah dont know how Simpson won that and won by 4 and 5 rds haha!. Most of the output and aggression was from Choi. And what about that idiot putting the belt around Simpson before the announcer even called it.
I gave that to Choi by 2 or 3 rds.

of course eddie hearn isint keen on a rematch..if that was a domestic fight ..sky would have a different opinion

Really? I thought he won it fair and square.

Excellent fight between two real hardcases.

how much is left in that fight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭Alpha Dog 1

Gonzalez is 3/1. Decent odds for a guy with such a good record. Different story coming to Scotland though.
    Will be an interesting fight.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,758 ✭✭✭Strongbow10

First 2 rounds to Gonzalez looking like a very tricky night for Burns must go put some money on Gonzalez now think he might do this winning the fight so far

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,749 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

    30- 27 to Gonzalez after 3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,749 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

39- 37 Gonzalez although it was close Ricky did better that round

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭runman

4-0 gonzales, i think burns is gona walk into a right hand soon.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

3-1 Gonzalez. Burns cut the distance a little in the 3rd and 4th.

49- 46 Gonzalez Burns really needs to pick it up even the round to Burns was close so could be 5 0 Gonzalez think Gonzalez will pull this off and by stoppage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,430 ✭✭✭megadodge

Gonzalez is looking very relaxed and smooth. Ricky isn't going to outbox him, so he better rough him up.

    Gonzalez 4-1 up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,351 ✭✭✭djhaxman

This is such a classy performance so far. great to watch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭bellybuster12

gonzales is 4/7 now, says it all. feel for burns here. 50-45 for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,749 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Gonzalez looks the real deal you never know with guys like this if they are as good as their rank and record suggests but damn Gonzalez is fantastic 59- 46 Gonzalez big ask for Ricky now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,225 ✭✭✭Henno30

Burns just walking straight in. No head movement, no angles either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭Alpha Dog 1

Sky sounding so surprised by gonna let.
Did they think his record was fabricated?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭runman
