I have a German friend who recently completed a FAS course in Networking. He came out with the following certifications:
    • Cisco Certified Networ Associated Routing & Switching
    • Comptia A+
    • Cisco Certification CCENT
    • Network + Certified
    • Windows Server 2008 Certified

He did two and a bit years of a software dev degree (that was nine years ago)
Since then he has worked in retail but is out of work at the moment.
He has two languages (German & English) and is really smart. I was always mad at him that he gave up on software dev 'cause if he stayed with it he would have got a 1:1 no bother. I want to get him back into IT and that Networking course is a step in that direction.
Could anyone advise me what he should do next? I don't know how valuable these certifications are but I believe the exams are quite hard to pass (you need to get 70% or over I think)
Obviously he can't get work 'cause he only has the certifications but no experience.
Has anyone here done them and got employment after?
I'm from an IT background myself but wouldn't have a clue of what to tell him.
