    Hi

Haven't even seen the car yet but am told its well cared for and just looking for opinions before I take a day off to go look at it.

    Thanks

    Sorry it's 2006

Have also been offered 2003 Mercedes 320cdi, uk import (by it's 1 original owner) with around 100k genuine miles on the clock - €4500, would love the luxury but don't know if I can justify the €1800/year tax bill:eek:

Engine should be fairly solid once it has been serviced regularly as it's a tried and tested unit. The first few years of the B6 model Passat were plagued with a few issues. Steering rack and the electronic handbrake gave trouble on them so make sure they have already been addressed or replaced at this stage.

Does it have any sort of service history with it?

As far as I know it has full service history. Just had quick look at others available on DD, this doesn't seem to be any great deal.

Is the 105 a bit underpowered for size of car?

I think they are a great car for what they are. Very comfortable, a much better drive than the older one and from what I hear, extremely reliable.

The 1.9 TDI is no rocket, but is does the job well.

I'd say 6500 is no steal. I saw a smashing Highline, 1 owner, fsh, etc, 06, with 100k km for 6000 or so last week.

Like mentioned earlier the 06 Passat had a few issues, along with the mentioned the hollow flywheel gave problems and the ignition had issues regarding the steering lock not fully recognising the key/fob,even if they've been sorted well it's still a high enough price.

Have decided against this one - is a trade sale at €6500 so price is too high considering it will probably need a service straight off:rolleyes:
As you suggest Frontdoor, I think I can get better bang for my buck out there! Price was already pushing my budget into the uncomfortable zone as I am not borrowing and would ideally like to stay under €6k.
So I'm still on the hunt if anyone has any suggestions
    Criteria:
    Budget - up to €6k
    Diesel up to 2.5l
    2005 - onwards
    Automatic preferable but not necessary
Lowest mileage possible as I will be clocking up a few on it

If you're happy to pay the tax, a Volvo s60 D5 would be hard to beat.

    S60 D5

    A smashing car.

Nice looking car - how are they on fuel economy? I remember a guy I did some work for having one and he said it was a 'pig on juice' - I think his was petrol though.
Am willing to pay the higher tax to get a comfortable ride - doing from 600 - 1000km/week so spending a bit of time in the car.

104 hp in a car as big as the Passat is not much.

The old PD 130 would have been better in that car.

I would willingly pay for someone to help an eejit like me to find a good/genuine one within budget......of course said budget would have to shrink accordingly!!

A regular on here had a 2006/2005 one and it was absolutely plagued with issues. Funny thing is, he sold it and bought a Rover! :D

    It depends on your application...

I have a 1.6 TDI estate(105 BHP/250ish Torque) and it does fine in most surroundings, even fully loaded. In fact the only situation I found it laboring hard was on the autobahn at 190km/h with a 300kg load

If your looking for something to get you from A-B with a fair amount of power, 105 is fine. If you find it's not you can always remap, I know superchip can remap that engine up to about 140bhp.

Any opinions on Opel/Vauxhall Vectra - there seems to be great value out there, anytime I see "great value" I get suspicious.....

More like 180 lbs torque for the 1.9 104 hp.

It would still have enough pulling power but 12.1 seconds 0-62 mph isn't exactly fast.

It's actually 251NM of torque as that's what torque is measured in its the si unit. They only use lbs in America. Ill agree there not a fast car but not underpowered for normal driving.

A lot of people are used to lbs when talking about engines, it can't be that hard to stick in Nm ?

    The search is over😄
I bought me a 2006 diesel Accord this evening, 120,000 on the clock, 2.2 Ex model. Have only driven it to work tonight but so far so good!! Ad is already removed from DD so can't post the link

Thanks everyone for all your help

I didn't get an Alfa after although the Passat was nearly changed for an Alfa GT but the dealer refused to sort a few niggles out as part of the deal.

The Rover was faultless compared to the Pisshat and was only changed as my mileage went down. I sold it and bought a BMW.

Diesel 75's are a highly under rated car

I bought one of them Passats last friday, 94k miles, 2005, paid 5500e. So far 105bph seems to be ok, but i`m thinking about more power. Anybody can advise best place to do it?
