Minimum Weight for factory

Whats the minimum live weight cattle have to be before you can send them to the factory? I have a couple of Fr bullocks just gone 12 months which I just cant sell at the moment, they are 300kgs but they failed to get a bid in the mart. I have loads of grass so I`m thinking of trying to fatten them over the summer myself
Is this possible and would I need to feed nuts with the grass??

Plenty dealers asked the same question, all hoping for a Bargain

my guess min weight is around 125kg a side, 250 deadweight which would be around 500- 520 kg lw. But your biggest problem will be to get enough fat cover on them. Cattle like that are probably better off as bulls. Might be worth phoning an agent as I'm only guessing.

frs getting roasted at the moment:D:D.that not a answer to op but either take your hit like a man now or just be prepaired to hold outand get them to 550 -600kgs and then the next man will be prepaired to gamble.

I find you won't finish Fr blk on grass without age and meal
Bull you just need meal grass is optional extra

I dont think I`ll get them to 500kg by autumn. I plan on letting them into mountain type grazing for the summer/autumn. Theres heaps of rough grass there that hasn't been grazed in donkeys years so if they come out of it at 450-500kg by then could I still send them to the factory? I`m thinking that at a 50% kill out there would be 200kg of carcase and @ €3.50/kg which equals €700 per head. Thats €700 more than I`m currently getting in the mart :D
    Is this a realistic target??

We are in the same boat here Grecco , we have fr bullocks that are about a year and a half and maybe 400 kgs , the father wants me to go the mart with them in the next week or two but I know it will be a waste of my day .
We have a few nice yearling heifers that would sell a bit easier that I want to go but he wants to keep them and bull them
The elephant in the room is the cows , they are eating more than any of the rest and probably leaving less money in the year

Im getting frightened by the trade for poor light animals, they cant be given away, confidence is at rock bottom, this better change quick or the amount of guys it will take with it will be unreal.

Is it that bad out there bob?
I've not been watching prices too much nor been to the mart recently.

Are you buying them up bob ? If the weather keeps going like this I reckon the fellas that buy stock to eat summer grass will not bother and make silage/hay instead

Rather than the minimum weight, what weight should we be targeting for 20-24 mths old heifers for slaughter.

I think the dept of Ag have done a hell of a lot of damage to the trade by changing the minimum stocking densities and length they have to be on the farm to 7 months. FFS 7 months!! Guys that use to buy a few Bullocks for the summer grazing now can't or can't be bothered due to these changes
    Bloody ridiculous

At 300kgs you would have been lucky to see e350 around here. If you can your only real option is to hold out till they are fit to kill and with friesians that will be a while.

not buying any as they arent the type of cattle I buy. I would buy FR's if they are very forward for a short keep, if buying animals for long periods I try and buy the best animal I can. hopefully the trade can pick up, as there is little demand around for light fr cattle. Money and feeding is just not there

Ya bob it's the same around here, N Tipp S Offaly area, plainer cattle are going home again. Even though the grass is finally starting to grow.Cul cows are abetter trade than plain weanlings, looks like nobody wants to buy cattle that they will have to keep through next winter at least until they have fodder sorted first.
