I had a cow and a heifer bulling the same day, ai'd both.. cow had blood on her tail 2 days after ai so i presumed she was shedding the egg and would return to season, could see nothing on maiden heifer whatsoever so was hopeful enough that she held, havent seen a gig out of mature cow and heifer came bulling after 18days ... would ye pay much attention to blood on tail so in 2-3 days following service?

    thanks

    It's just a sign that she's ovulating.

I think mr P has arrived:( keep an eye on her three weeks after she came bulling this time, she will probably come bulling then.

I had a cow that called last week, 20 days overdue. Thing was in January she came bulling, or so I thought.
She was standing up with other cows rising on her and she felt hot. So I thought about culling her. She is the best bred cow I have so I didn't want to get rid of her.

I asked the vet last week and he had a Latin name for it when a cow come bulling mid pregnancy.

    hi figerty,

i had that last summer with a heifer 3 months in calf standing to be mounted for 2 different yearlings... was ripping and nearly called ai man but left it as it was so late in the year.

shocked when she scanned in calf but it was odd only thing was she wasnt doing any of the rising but definitely standing to be mounted

I had a heifer 2 years ago that came on heat every 10 days about 6 weeks before she calved. It was unusual to see a springing heifer bulling.

Same as yours jimmy, the cow scanned in calf from first straw, despite the blood on tail following service .. Heifer kept on 18days and scanned in calf also

Had a cow showing blood after service in may assumed she was in calf but was bulling yesterday after nine weeks. Varies a lot

The blood on the tail after bulling is related to the increased blood supply to the area caused by the hormones at the time. It has nothing to do with being pregnant or not.

    Interesting.
What about red vulva as opposed to blood? Can an inference be made about pregnancy?

The colour of the vaginal/vulvar mucosal surface will vary with the hormones that are dominant during the particular phase of the Oestrous cycle. Some stages will be similar to gestation, so basically, no.

Mature cow - KCE blonde heifer - 298 days
Maiden heifer - AHZ limousine bull -280days

What kind of calves is AHZ throwing? I remember asking the AI man about him a year ago and he said the straws are hard got.

AHZ - I have one calf by him, very easy calving. One of the smallest calves born in the place. Good msucle on him but not the tallest or growthiest of bulls I's say.

Did'nt find him the easiest calving, fair lump of a calf. I put pictures of him up on the picture thread around Xmas.
