Nature reserve rules

    Hi folks.
I make walking sticks and hiking staffs as a hobby and have always gotten my sticks from my local area where I have permission to do so.
However I was in a nature reserve last week and there were thousands of ash and hazel. I was fairly tempted to take one I must say but I presumed that it would be illegal to take a stick from a nature reserve. Was I right? Its not often you find such a very vast area completely covered in perfect candidates for walking sticks but I wouldn't touch them if it was not permitted.
I tried looking on the NPWS website but there is no information on it.
Can anyone here confirm my assumption please. Thanks.

Yeah to the best of my knowledge its illegal to take anything from a protected area (i.e. SPA, SAC, NHA, Nature Reserve etc.), so you can't take stuff like sand, live trees, dead trees, flowers etc!

try contacting whoever manages the site, they may welcome someone coppicing some of the trees; or may be able to let you know when this work is being done.
