    Hi guys,
Have a 2006 1.4 Toyota Corolla D-4D not too far off a service now.
    Engine is 1ND-TV.
Fully Synthetic oil is a must.
Have always used Castrol oils but I'm open to opinions as to what is best.
Also where is cheap to buy engine oil, either in Sligo or Online.
    Thanks,
    Tommy

Not too sure to be honest. Name sounds familiar but can't quite place it now. I'm sure I'll remember properly by the time of the service :)

Is this the logo. Is so then yes, there's one near me :)

use only recommended oil and never cheap out on it ever better to buy good quality oil and keep your corolla ticking over then skimp and end up sized or worn engine parts.

Didn't know that could be got! Will have to look harder in future.
Tesco had a big offer on Castrol oil in England but they don't sell oil in NI. Tesco.ie only lists one type on their site: http://www.tesco.ie/groceries/product/search/default.aspx?searchBox=castrol

Looks like a good price but says 2 litre. Surely cant be right?!

I found B&Q the best for me.

Yes 5w30 A1 spec is whats recommended iirc. Definitely 5w30 anyways. Got to check the spec to be sure though.
Was more kind of directed towards brand names and what would be best/possible even better than Castrol.
I have always used Castrol Magnatec but wondering is Castrol Edge any better :)

Bit steep. Could get 4 litres of Castrol Magnatec for a similar price iirc.

Havn't got a B&Q near me but may be going to Dublin some time over the summer so could pick it up then :)

Allot of what Castrol put out nowadays is more directed towards newer models and just keeping an edge on the market sticking to viscosity (the thickness) and Castrol brand is the safest way to do business. As to different additives id say it purely personally choice but do consider heavier oil as your car ages like for example the numbers say 5 / 40 w the 5 is lite oil to stick to parts when engine is cold 40 is for when she's warm and w means winter, but the all weather oil is grand cause oil seasons are mild.

I think that should read 4L... can't be sure. If they do run the offer it will be worth looking out for!

Castrol and Duckhams are both owned by BP now, so the name is just a marketing label. Buy according to the ACEA specification and you will be safe, plus you will save money.

Amazon doing castrol edge at a decent price with free postage.

I don't think so. The offer is a 4litre can, not 5litre, and the price is in sterling. When the conversion is done it works out at about €41 for four litres. You should be able to find something else just as good around here for €30 per 5 Litres. Furthermore, that free delivery seems to be UK only.

Guys, I don't think anyone will beat the prices of Gerry in The Oil Store in Blanchardstown.
    I put up a thread about them a while back;

Where can I find 5 litres of castrol edge for 30 euro? Plus Amazon postage to Ireland is free once you spend 25 pounds sterling.

    Nowhere. It's at least 10 euro/l.

You'll get a different brand with same spec for that price. http://www.micksgarage.com/oils-lubricants/5w30-engine-oil/

Ronnie has answered that, nowhere! Here's part of what I said again:

Why do you want Castrol Edge anyway? It's only a label. Castrol are now a marketing brand of the BP Oil Company.

I generally use AC Delco which is also a good brand and comes at the price I mentioned.

Hi Wheelnut, good info. there, any supplier for AC delco that you could recommend?

I don't know where you're located but I buy mine in a local factor, Quirkes in Athlone.
