Braking issues

I noticed that when I brake at speed I get a vibration through the steering and brake pedal, But when I brake slow it feels as if the car is 'rocking' back and fourth slightly!

The discs and pads are new and I don't see signs of discolouration on any disc to suggest that they are warped. I have checked my tyres and they seem to be fine along with the alloys.

All wheels are balanced and pressure's correct.

I will be replacing a left front wheel bearing and was wondering if this would cause the problems? When I jack up the car I can't feel any movement on the wheel to suggest that the bearing is really lose but then again when the weight is applied it may have a bit a play.

It may be an alloy but again I can't see any visual damage and if I replace the tyres and the problem is still there it may be an alloys or something completely different.

I also replaced a top engine mount but there is 2 more at the frot bottom of the engine and right bottom, would they casue that rocking under braking and the shudder at high speed?

    Thanks

You wouldn't be able to see a warped disc. It would only need to be out a few millimeters to cause that effect. How new are the discs?

Edit. Sorry on second reading of this.
No engine mounts wouldn't have any play in vibration when braking.
The wheel bearing might have a hand in it as well.

Yea its just like the pressure is being applied then released, abs seems to work fine as does the traction control.

The discs and pads were replaced by the dealer when I bought the car so they have about 10,000 miles but mostly motorway. I have a spare set of new pads and there almost the same as the ones in the car so the have not seen much grief!

Ill go for a wheel bearing change first and see if that makes any difference but I cant see it helping much!

Em going for a diagnostics check soon so that might show up an abs fault

a few millimetres???.....more like a couple of hundred thou out and the'll vibrate,if brake discs were warped by millimeters i doubt the car would physically drive

Are you sure everything is tightened correctly. Check your calipers and make sure everything is tight. It could be a sticky calliper that needs replacing. Are brake fluid levels ok?
A couple of things to do and check before you spend money on parts.

    Yes, that's what I meant.

OP if you Jack the car up, whip of the wheel and spin the disc by hand you should be able to hear the disc if it rubs.
Not guaranteed to show if its only minutely warped but I think if you have a sensation of rocking back and forth at low speeds it could well be a significant warp in either or both.
Doesn't really matter if the discs are new, if they weren't bedded in properly they could easily be warped.

    Its a 2002 Volvo S80

I can hear a slight knock but only at very low speeds, sounds like either anti-roll bushes or drop links.

Wishbone seems tight but I may have a worn lower engine mount, won't know till I get under and have a look.

I don't really want to spend a lot of money on this car as I've already spent a few on a full service, gear oil, platinum plugs, top engine mount, cv joint and a few quid on cruise control sensors only to still have no cruise control.

I like to keep my cars right but you can only spend so much before its not worth keeping
