Hi all, just wondering what opinions or tips people have on healthy eating when travelling abroad particularly in getting enough protein in.

I'm headed Portugal next week for a week then off to travel around Croatia for 10 days in June. I was thinking of buying a box of protein bars and throwing them in the travel bag to have in case of emergencies :D

    same as eating here.

youll probably eat out more often so know what you are eating calorie/macro wise.
Try to eat at places with lots of fresh meat and veg or fish (should be no trouble in Portugal)

eat the local food, avoid fast food.

no harm in packing lunches bought from the supermarkets.

and no harm in bringing some protein bars. could also buy some jerky as it will keep for ages in your room.

    -protein bars

    -protein shakes

    -packets of almonds

-tins of tuna or mackerel (because they don't need to be refrigerated) ...(bring some chewing gum with you as well if you choose this)

I don't get it lads, it's barely a three week holiday. Just enjoy the local diets, and eat how they eat.

Protein bars really are not what I would define as healthy!

The same foods have the same nutrients in different countries.

Whatever you eat in Ireland, eat abroad.

You are going on holidays, enjoy yourself.

The thought of taking protein bars and shakes on a sun holiday is simply ridiculous.
