I have a 05 VW Sharan 7 seater. Due to change is circumstances, don't need such a big car. I want a small, fuel efficient, low tax, reliable run-around. I don't have any money to put to new car, would a garage swap with no money changing hands. Any advice appreciated :)

Is it diesel or petrol? You will be better off trying to sell it privately and offer to part exchange it against a smaller car. I'm sure there are people out there with a small car and expanding family looking for a MPV. If the Sharan is petrol then it could prove harder to shift.

A garage will want to make money from any deal so they will either under value your trade-in or over value the car you are attempting to swap it for.

As mentioned ......... sell it privately, assuming it's in reasonable nick and nct'd you should have no problems shifting it. A realistic income out of the sale would be in the region of 4-5k. I doubt this will get you into a 2008 CO2 tax bracket car though.
