Thomas Chamney announced his retirement from international athletics on Twitter not so long ago:
"Just want to officially announce my retirement from international athletics. Many regrets but some good memories too. Have to thank my family for sticking by me thru some extremely difficult times the last 2 years. Excited about the guys who have. Come thru to replace me and looking forward to some great runs from them all this summer. It's been emotional but on to new challenges".

He finished his career with PBs of 1:45.41 and 3:36.83.

That's a pity, I think he had some recent injuries that he mustn't have been able to overcome. He seemed to be on the comeback trail the end of last summer but maybe he's had another set back.

I wonder will he still race nationally? I use to love reading his training blog, very honest, funny and controversial a lot of the time.

Would love to hear an uncensored account of his time in Spain. I always got the impression he wasn't happy with the goings on with a number of the Spanish lads he war training with and he actually left the group he was training with IIRC. Based on recent revelations in Spain would be interesting to hear an insiders story!

That's a real shame, from following his old blog I'm surprised it's taken this long for him to come to a decision. He often sounded very frustrated with his injuries. A loss to Irish athletics.

Hopefully he gets a lot more media work. I like his refreshing no holds barred honesty.

Pity about the injuries was always good to see an international running at home In Road relays and inter clubs etc
Some nice rivalry over the years with Campbell to put a bit of an edge on some races.
