Engine swap?

Just enquiring on behalf of a friend, but does anyone know if the superior engine from a civic (not sure of the make/model) can be used to replace the engine on a Rover 45? The two cars are well nigh identical, except that the Rover has gone through its' second, no warning, head gasket.

It's a good clean car and possibly worth the trouble to keep it motoring. If a decent used Civic engine would do the job, it might be worth the trouble.

Replacing the head gasket is not really an option, with the cost, skimming the head etc. just to wait for it to go again.

Any thoughts or likely sources appreciated. The Rover is a 1.4 02 fwiw.

i think there are too many differences to swap the engines over...but im not 100% on that....there is a modified head gasket available for the k series engine which seems to do the job of fixing this problem

Can't see it making financial sense. The 45 would be worth less than a grand fully working.

Yes it can be done if you have enough $$$
    As said not worth it.

Can't be done. The Civic engine is turned the other way and the engine mounts are on opposite sides as a result.

head gaskets go in them due to sticky worn out thermostats??

its the k series engines that give HG trouble in rovers. No civic ever got a variation of the k series so the engines are not compatible and cannot be swapped simply.

Thanks for all the replies folks. Guess that pretty well answers my question.
