Hi, looking for some advice re purchase of first bike. I've been told to stick with good brakes and gears, either tiagra or 105 in shimano. I'm wondering which of the above makes would you consider if purchasing ? If you can recommend a model all the better but I'd like to keep it around the €900 mark. thanks in advance.

I think you're 3 or 400 quid off your big brand wish list with your budget imo

You'd get an entry level giant defy for that, but it'd be 9 speed sora, as opposed to the tiagra you want. Might get a smiliarly specced specialized allez either...

giant defy with tiagra is listed at 999, im sure with cash you might be able to do something.

Mind if I piggyback on this? I am looking for a new bike too. Something for commuting shortish distances. Budget would be up to 1500 or thereabouts, so hoping to get something nice & light, decent gears and brakes like the OP. Can u suggest a model, and ideally where to go shopping please? I'll be paying cash.

    would you buy online?

Had a look at the Giant Defy 2 & 3. Recommendation if the Shimano Tiagra is worth the extra €150 over the Shimano Sora in the longer run ?

I wouldn't buy a bike with either tbh.

Can you stretch the extra €100 to this?
