HIV worries after Thailand trip

    Hi,

I've had something hanging over my head for a while now. I was in Thailand about 3 years ago at this stage, and when there I had sex with a girl. I wore a condom, but it came off at some point, and subsequently I developed symptoms of an STI (burning when I pee). After coming home, I went to my GP and he gave me a big dose of antibiotics to take. This cleared up the infection quickly and I haven't had any problems since.

However I never went to an STI clinic for a test, so every so often I'll start to worry that I might have picked up something else from her, in particular HIV. I have no reason to believe this, but can't rule it out until I get a test.

Can someone put my mind at ease? Can someone carry HIV but not have any symptoms for 3 years?

Sorry OP - but you are clearly looking for medical advice here and we cannot provide that.
All we can do is strongly recommend that you seek an HIV test, either way this worry is not good so please make an appointment today.
