The word 'doused' is not nearly used enough, but only ever in relation to petrol. Are there other things to be doused in?

    Doused is a contronym.

It means both to cover in and to extinguish.

'He was doused in petrol by the rioters'

'The flames were doused by the Fire Brigade'

I don't see how those two meanings are contradictory.

    Diesel.

Anything that can be drenched in can be doused in - use a liquid of your choice be creative - Lynx - thats something that smells as though the wearer was doused in it - perhaps the potential to be inflammable has something to do with it :)

You can be doused in perfume and aftershave!
Doused referring to perfume is common parlance anyway.

go to the BYU COCA online corpus here and type in the word doused. You will get a good idea about what kind of words it collocates with. After you type it in and ckick enter, you'll need to click on the word again to see the results.

    http://corpus.byu.edu/coca/

Off-topic, but I believe the strongest collocation in the english language is the word 'dulcet' with 'tones'.

In a similiar vein we have the word encrusted which only seems to apply either to jewels or fecal matter.

"Aw man my pants are encrusted... :(

    ...with rubies :) "

'Encrusted' is used for food too.

"These delicious chicken fillets are encrusted with bacon, herbs..... and fecal matter. "

the opposite of solvent is insolvent

But with dousing it's like flammable vs. inflammable
