Buying a new bike

Looking to buy a bike to cycle to work with soon.
Been having a bit of a look around and there seems to be decent enough bikes out there for 350-400e,so dont see the need to spend more just now. Id prefer a new mountain bike with front suspension and disc brakes. Seen a Felt for 350 and a Giant going for just over 400. Im not personally familiar with Felt but I know Giant is pretty decent.
I know there are a fair few bits and pieces you need more too but will deal with that once I have the bike.
Anyone know of any good deals going on at the moment, which sellers to avoid, which you would recommend?
    Thanks

It might be worth dropping in to your local bike shop for some advice.

You mention you want use the bike to commute to work - you may be able to avail of the bike to work scheme and get a better bike.

Have a think about what you might want to use the bike for other than going to and from work. Depending on what you want to do you may not need the suspension/disk brake - a hybrid or even a road bike may be more suitable, but you'll probably need to spend a bit more.

Have a look at a few of the websites operated by some of the larger bike shops - wheelworx, staggs, harrys, cyclesuperstore etc etc Some may have second hand bikes available.

Felt and Giant are well respected manufacturers but like most manufacturers, better quality will mean higher prices.

Enjoy the bike when you get it.

This might be a bit cheeky but you might want to check out my ad on adverts in the morning. I will be selling my 8 month old Cube CLS hybrid in the morning. It has front suspension and disc brakes and will come with all you need eg mud guards, bottle and cage, computer and lights. It has puncture resistant road tyres and a spare set of knobbly off road tyres thrown in. Ad will be up by noon tomorrow.

If you are only going to be using the bike to cycle to work I wouldn't go with a mountain bike. Id go with a hybrid because commuting is exactly what they were designed for. Look at the Trek Fx's they're a good bike.

I might not only be using it for work in the long run, I used to do some cross country cycling so might get into that again. Will find out about the cycle to work scheme tomorrow at the HR department. Thanks for the help and offers.

Went into Eurocycles city centre today about their Felt Q220 Hibachi thats on sale for 349,99. Was told they dont have any in stock and they called the other shops for me (so they say) and they dont have any in stock either. Considering its from the 2012 range I wouldnt say they have any stock coming in.
Went online just now and their website shows they have it in stock so ordered one. Hoping to get it soon.

    No suspension...you'll regret it!

You mean no rear suspension? Never had a full suspension bike before when I did some cross country cycling and couldnt be bothered with one now if im going to be cycling on road most of the time.
Bike I ordered has front suspension which is all I need/want.

Went on Eurocycles just now, 24 hours after ordering the bike, and they dont have it on offer anymore, completely removed from their site.
I have a suspicion that I am going to get a call on monday to inform me the bike I ordered isnt available anymore (even though it showed they have it in stock when I ordered it) and to either spend more to get a different bike or get my money back off them.

Also, when purchasing the bike it asked for personal details to create an account, as most places do for online shopping, but never asked for a password. Now trying to sign in to track the order I cant because I was never asked to select a password when creating the account. Selecting the "have you lost your password" thing doesnt help either, tried it twice, twice it said the password was sent to email adress but twice didnt receive it. They recognise the email adress as having an account with them.
