Advice required - Passat Estate TSI Petrol

Hey I'm looking at getting one of these. I don't do much mileage at all, work is a 5 min drive so diesel doesn't really make sense for me.
Not a lot of these available secondhand in petrol so choice is limited.

The estate shape will suit for lifestyle needs, carrying surfboards in the car or on the rack and a nice mesh to keep the hound in the boot!

There are some 1.6 and 2.0 litre petrol ones available.
I can handle the tax of the 2 if required since i expect the 1.6 could be a little underpowered but welcome comment on that? Is the 1.6 up to the job at all?

I'm not a rally driver by any means :D

Is the 2L petrol a decent engine?

    This is something i'm considering

Thanks for taking a look and hopefully saving me before i go daft looking at done bloody deal

    P

That Passat you linked is actually an FSI, so it's got a 150hp. It's ok for a Passat I guess.

I recently purchased a passat petrol tsi 1.4

I have to say I love it. Very smooth to drive, comfortable and it can definitely move when you want it to.

Put it to you this way, my husband has a 1.6 Nissan and even he says it's much faster to drive then his car. It's the tsi engine I presume?

Goys, the T in the TSI stands for turbo. Comparing it with an non-turbo is a bit:

As stated, try and get a 1.4 or 1.8 TSI, not FSI; they have a turbo and feel much nicer to drive.

The 2.0FSi is fairly OK to drive. Driven a couple and was driving an Accord 2.0i at the time. Passat wasn't far off the performance of the Honda, but did run out of steam a bit sooner (no VTEC YO).

Even the 1.6FSi is OK in the Passat Saloon (never driven the estate version). Not going to win the drag race away from the lights, but by the sounds of it OP, you won't be trying that anyway. Has enough power to keep up with traffic, but I do think a fully laden Estate may struggle a bit with the 1.6FSi, but the 2.0FSi shouldn't have anu difficulty.

If you can find one, and it's in budget, the best bet is probably the 1.4Tsi. Better performance than the 1.6FSi, probably almost on par with the 2.0FSi, and as long as it's pre-July 08 registered, then very reasonable road tax.

If that mileage is genuine, then you won't find a 1.4 TSi for that price in that condition.

The road tax on my 08 1.4 tsi is 570... As its petrol!

Pricey enough but it's a decent car!

Thanks guys that's exactly the kind of info and feedback i was after. I've learned a lot there.

That 1,4tsi sounds real nice, as Tea 1000 said, big jump in bucks for it so it's probably not an option for me.

There is a very narrow choice of passat estates in ireland in petrol, a lot seem to be the basic spec minus the arm rest, which is something i really like to have. I will check out the UK also where i guess the advantage would be more choice rather than significant savings in this case.

Anyways, I'll keep looking, thanks once again.
