VRT testing location query

    Hi everyone,

As I mentioned somewhere else on here, I recently bought a 2011 car in the UK and hope to get the VRT testing thing done and dusted in the next week, or two.

I've just discovered I don't actually have any recent posted (hardcopy) utility bills in my name. The usual ones are in the name of someone else, and my banking/phone bills are all electronic now. Is this a deal breaker? Maybe a letter from my bank confirming my address? Althought the friggers probably charge for something like that.

Also, can you do the test in a location other than the one closed to where you live? For example, if I live in Dublin (with a Dublin address) can I do the VRT test in Monaghan?

I can do it in Dublin, if I have to, but it would save me taking a day off work to do it elsewhere.

Had a search on here for answers to these questions but nothing is jumping out at me.

    Thanks.

Had exactly the same problem few weeks ago.
I brought utility bill on my wife's name and statement signed by my wife that I live with her. That did the job.

I vrt'd mine in a different county but the test center in laois dose not deal in vrt. It gave me the list of centers to pick from when I booked online so I guess I could picked any one..

Could you not print off one of your online bills.

    Hiya OfCork,

Believe it or not, my utterly useless bank actually has an old address on my electronic statements even though I updated my address ages ago to my current one. I'm going to ask them if they'll post me out a letter of confirmation this week as I have the VRT test next Tuesday so don't have the time to wait for them to post out a general statement.

It shouldn't be this much hassle, but unfortunately it is.

    Hi Sean,

Did they still put Laois plates on your car? I'm not hugely picky about this, but a dealer friend tells me the car would be easier to sell later on with the Dublin plates. Something I wasn't aware of before.

    Hi Cinio,

I guess I could get my sister to do something similar. She'd have quite a few bills in her name. Although I'd prefer to get the bank to send me a letter confirming my address. Provided they confirmed the right address, of course.

    Thanks for the replies.

Yup laois plates. It will be registered to the county of the person who registers it lives in. If you have a cork address the car will be a c reg.
The only way to get a dublin reg (if you don't live in dublin) would be get someone living there to register it for you then swap it to your name when the log book comes back after taxing it. This will mean an extra owner straight away..
