    Story,
was talking to a sound techie the other day, telling me he bought some of the box pro stuff for theatre work...i always perceived this was just budget basic gear?

anyone ever use this at gigs? looked at some stuff there looks too good to be true.

    Amateur theatre?

I suppose it's good value for money and the warranty is great but it's low enough output suited to smaller rooms.

Well yes its amateur productions put like most all input is professional lighting, sound, directors, band etc..the sound company said they suited and were very good quality etc?
plus the theatre in question holds 450 so its not a small room.

like most i place reliability ahead value for money any day..
a friend of mine just bought a two 18inch tbox achat subs and the spl is 138??

    138spl at what distance?

You will find the specs from all makes can be a bit confusing and should be taken with a pinch of salt. I've not heard the boxes in person but if where quality and solid performance is needed I'd not buy them unless you've back up e.g. more than 2 subs and extra tops. I'm sure they are cheap for replacement parts etc.

Also different rooms will give a different performance to a PA, so if its an install 18" subs may not be suited for them and you would get a better performance from a 15" box. With theatre sound, loud in your face is not exactly the order of the day. Clear mid's/highs with a long throw would be better for speech etc which is hard to get unless you start flying tops using line arrays and use of delays down the room etc.
