Could someone explain ICBF vs agfood to me?

Apologies for the stupid newbie question but can anyone explain to me the advantages of using icbf online (vs. agfood) and what has to be done to start using it?

It looks more comprehensive to me - also can't for the life of me figure out why agfood doesnt seem to carry the results of BVD tests, for example.

It's for a small dairy (ish) herd that will milk after 2015.

    Thanks!

ICBF is more of a management tool for recording the likes of calving, breeding, milk recording, culling, drying off etc.

Whereas agfood is for your dealing with the department for things like calf registration, cattle movements, SFP, nitrates etc.

You must register all movement births etc with Dept of Ag either by post or by Ag food which is just an online service.
ICBF is for management and a great source of info but you are not oblidged to use it.

For example if you reg a birth on Ag food this info can be forwarded to Icbf and you can in turn use ICBF to generate reports.

agfood is the departments online interaction with farmers for schemes and movements via the AIM.

ICBF is made up of industry partners to promote improved cattle breeding, but receives details of movements from the department.

We're do all the registration etc. on agfood so far - had got the hang of that bit, just about.. what i was wondering was the additional stuff provided by icbf.

I got the impression that icbf holds more data particularly for breeding purposes - what I'm not sure is whether I can access data from herds outside my own (eg. the dam / sire of a bought in heifer...)?

I'll sign up and see where we go with it I think..

What i don't like about ICBF is, you can input the tag no of any bull on the farm and look at it's breeding values, but you can't do the same for a heifer. Or am I missing something?
