CPU Cooler

Howdy,

Upgrading to a i5 3470 from a pentium dual core (g630), but it doesnt come with a stock cooler, so just wondering what my options are considering i cant over clock, just want something more efficient than stock, cheap and quieter hopefully.

Also, i using a smallish case, so the smaller the better as well incase it covers the ram slots etc..

Will probably order from amazon

just use the stock cooler its small and quiet and does the job well enough for that

I will go against those two opinions and say it's neither inaudible or loud. Someone in the middle.

I'd go with Serephucus on this. I owned the hyper 212+ for about 2-3 months and it is a great little cooler. It is fairly loud in my honest opinion though.

I have a stock cooler from a 3570k that i dont need,you can just have it if you didnt wanna spend any money. Im in dublin and could meet you in dublin 15

Yeah i was looking at that, looks pretty Big, Will have to get the measuring tape out before ordering! Presume i can cut back the fan speed as there will be no overclock?

He wasn't talking about the 212 evo.

It's far from loud. I'll admit the fan on it could be better but it's only slightly audible on my big windowed vented case. On a sound dampened case you would not hear it.

If not overclocking the fan speed could be reduced. I was getting 55c max load temps before overclocking.

^ That, exactly. It's not what I'd call a fantastic cooler, but it does the job, and given that it's in a good, quiet case, and you don't need crazy-low temperatures, you can have the fan spinning reasonably slowly and it should be fine.

I have a True Spirit 120 on my G530, and at the lowest possible speed I can keep the fan spinning with, the fan is only barely audible over six hard drives. The CPU also hasn't gone above 60° yet.

Thanks for the input Lads. Im not fanatical about noise levels and temps etc. My load temps at the moment dont go over 40. And the fan noise is fine, ihave A side intake connected To molex which is louder i reckon.

Ill probably just pick Up the 212+ (if it fits) or from the guy who lists one on the selling thread. Only have bouts of cpu intensive stuff anyways, occassional tranacoding, Gaming, cad and Some simple 3d work.
