    Hi Guys,

My nieces Ipod 3rd Gen?? one with camera has locked up as she has forgotten her password and says connect to iTunes. Problem being that the laptop she set it up with is gone. When i try to do it and restore the ipod on my itunes it wont let me do it. I have followed some stuff on utube.... put into DFU mode and restore but when its almost complete i get a message saying unable to restore as there is a passcode!!! so any suggestions would be appreciated before my sister has to fork out on a new one for her.

    Cheers

I think if you have an itunes account, you can just download any music you bought again, after the ipod is reset.https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1470043

You will you need to plug it in to a pc or laptop with windows os, to do this method above.
probably pc with xp,or windows 7 ,is the easiest to do this with.

    Hi riclad,

I have tried this but it doesn't seem to work, I'm using my laptop and not original laptop that the iPod was synced to. It goes through the process but at end it says it can't restore as the iPod has a lock code on it. Currently the iPod says " iPod disable, connect to iTunes.

install itunes on the pc, i suppose you could do a reset,
but ,you,ll lose all the music, data on the ipod.

I don,t know if installing itunes will make any difference.

I have iTunes on my laptop but I cant rest or restore iPod, at this stage it doesn't matter about loosing any stuff on it as its unusable at present.

MAYBE go to settings, do a full reset ipod,

it,ll erase all music, movies etc

i did this on my friends iphone,
to erase the credit card info ,user data .
    it worked fine.
does reset work on your ipod?

When I connect the iPod up to my laptop with iTunes I get a message.... Could not connect to iTunes as iPod is locked with a password, you must enter password before it can be used with . I have tried reset in DFU mode.... Hold down power button for few seconds till apple logo comes on, hold down home button for further 10 seconds etc etc as per videos on iTunes but it seems that all of them concern using your now laptop that the iPod was synced with in the beginning!!! When I try to reset it, I get a progress bar at top of my iTunes but at the end it says it cannot be restored as it locked with password.
