Following on from this thread, I'm suggesting this as a technique thread for BJJ. Initially I'm suggesting that BJJ be spit into submissions and advancement (Sweeps and Passes). The structure can be changed later if needed. Lets keep any structure suggestions to the discussion thread.

    Scissor Sweep

This is a sweep I like a lot. I roll with a few wrestlers, and they tend to press forward when in guard, which leads into this sweep well.
A basic beginners sweep, its by no means inescapable. but as good a place as any to get the ball rolling.

This picture series shows a basic outline of the sweep. I grabbed it from another site, so it's not exactly as I'd like. I prefer to place the opposite foot on the mat, ie the same side as the gripped arm & collar, the side that I'll sweep to. But that's just a preference. It's simply about moving your hips away and crossing his hip with your shin.
1.jpg You have your opponent in the guard. Grab their collar with your right hand (fingers inside, thumb outside), and their right elbow with the other.
2.jpg Open guard, put your right foot on the mat. With your weight on your right foot and left shoulder move your hips to the right creating space.
3.jpg Lay your left leg on the ground next to your his knee and bring your right knee across his stomach
4.jpg Here you can see how your right leg should be positioned.
5.jpg In one movement straighten your right knee & scissor your legs. Pull your shoulders back, drag his arm towards you. Sweeping your opponent
6.jpg In the same flowing movement, take up the mounted position. You should have your opponents right arm controlled.

And for those that like to see the picture move here's a video.

Note: I know the above guy got some stick online because in his older videos he was a white belt posting BJJ vids, while wearing his JJJ blackbelt. I used that video as the instruction is clear, and the quality is good.
Slightly irrelevant but, afaik, he has since ranked to purple legitimately in 10thPlanetJJ and also in the JJJ.
