If a car has been off the road for a few years and it has no NCT since 2010. is it legal for me to drive it while i await for test? say if i got stopped by the gardai and i had proof nct test was in x number of days. would this be enough to meet there needs or could i still risk a court appearance?:o

    Is the car taxed?

It depends on the mood of the Garda that stops you to be honest! legally you are not supposed to be driving the car on a public road without a valid NCT, even if the NCT is booked! But most reasonable Gardai will leave you alone if you have proof of the booking either by text message or letter. Just be warned that you CAN still be brought to court!

Yes like i said most fair cops will leave you off but you should know that you can, actually be done for it if the cop was a cu*t!

Yes the car will be taxed i am in the process of getting it back on the road as work has come up for me so i want to take it but the closet nct is a few days after i intend on starting to drive it.
And i just saw the fines regarding nct changed in aug last year where it is now a mandatory court appearance 5 points and a fine so i don't really want to risk that.
Knowing my luck i will meet that cop that is in a bad mood
    Thanks for all the replies.

Apart from risk of prosecution, Gardai may also immediately impound the car.

btw your reference to "cop" being a "c--t" indicates a wrong attitude
