Teaching with Diplomas

Interested in becoming a second level teacher but am undecided as to what subjects I'd like to teach. What's not making it easier is the options of degrees I can choose. If I had my way I would study Business, Music, Irish and French all to an equal level and to Level 8 standard.

What I'm wondering is, would part time diplomas allow me to teach the subject ie. Do a part time diploma in Irish while studying Music, or in French while studying business?

I realise some allow further progression to a Level 8 , which I wouldn't be opposed to doing. But in general, would a Level 6/7 part time 2 year course allow me to teach those subject (provided I do the Education Diploma at the end of course)

    Thanks

No, you need to have a subject to degree level to be able to teach it. Sure, if that was the case everyone would become teachers after a 2 year cert/diploma course.

Aside from all that you will probably have enough on your plate doing whatever your degree entails without doing a diploma on the side.

Unless it's changed the RIAM licentiate is allowed by the TC although it has some T&c , it might be handy as a minor subject if a school needs a second music teacher... don't think a principal would be too happy about it being "not a degree" although the licentiate is quite hard to get first time round...have a search in the music forum for threads and info.
