In an internship, should the person look for a more secure job in the same industry or stay put and hope that they offer a permanent position at the end of the 9 months.

Took on an internship as there was no permanent jobs going even though the person has experience from pervious employment and is qualified in this role

Keep looking if you sit tight and wait for a job to come to you you could be waiting for a very long time

Keep looking. There are very explicitly no promises around internships. The only exception is if the internship is getting you some very specific expereince/training that you could not get otherwise.

Maybe a course that include an internship might be best way forward if it means updating your skills...
