Probation Records

    Hey all,

I was curious to find out some infomation on probation and how long a record like that might be kept. I got probation for a minor offence when I was 18 (25 now) and soon ill be getting an ESTA check for a short working visa in the US.

It states that I may have problems if I have ever been cautioned or convicted. Is there any way to find out if that probation is still on record or if it will cause problems? Local Garda station or court house? Does a completed probation period count as a caution?

Quite worried as the future of my career kinda relies on me being able to get into the states every now and again..

    Thanks,

    Martin

Your solicitor can tell you it depends did you get the probation of offenders act and if you did which section.

Thanks for the reply, I'm fairly sure the guy I used back then is long retired, do all solicitors have access to records like that to find out? Sorry I'm absolutely and completely clueless about all this stuff..

Do you mean you were given the benefit of the probation act? If so then you dont actually have a criminal record for the offence, its sort of a slap on the wrist and dont do it again sort of thing..... do it again and you will have a conviction!
