I was using my headphones and since, I can't get rid of the feedback - piercing noise - both each time I close the laptop and also if I try to watch a music clip on you tube etc. it is really annoying and the only way to get shut of it temporarily is to turn the laptop volume down to the min, but then can't have any sound on laptop. Please help!

Sounds like your microphone is turned on. You should be able to turn it off or down in your Sound settings from Control Panel or through the Volume icon in your taskbar.

Got it sorted, thanks. I had been doing all that, had tried restring factory settings etc but I had missed the "microphone boost" on my realtek audio player and it had been set to the max!

Glad you're sorted now. Easy enough to overlook some of the settings manufacturers put in.
