What are the most common asked questions during the theory part of the actual driving test?

Rules of a junction box (always), when do you over take on the left, when do you dip your headlights,
    and Signs are mostly random.

Any can be asked, there arn't really any most common questions as far as I know.
Do know ALL the signs well though, including the tunnel signs.

Read the RotR untill you know all the broad points, and then learn a few points that you don't think you'd remember off the top of your head or encounter during everyday driving.

An example of a question would be "Tell me the rules for a yellow box junction", so as you can see, if you've been driving for any amount of time you should know these rules without needing to study the RorR.

However if you're asked something like "What is the hard shoulder on a motorway used for", something might slip your mind in the moment as you would have never encountered that in the normal course of your driving.

I read the RorR 2 weeks before my test, and none of the questions were that difficult in the test.

Know your hand signals, speeds, all your signs as these are asked before you get into the car.
I found by getting all the signs correct it gave me that bit of extra confidence getting into the car - knowing that I wasn't already 1 mark down.

I think, but could be wrong, the penalty of getting some signs wrong is only minor but that could be the difference between a good and a bad day.

If time allows it I would advise getting an hours lessons with your instructor before the test and get him to test you - it will get you into that correct mindset and you should get good feedbakc on any errors made.

    Good luck with it

The hand signals are asked during the test after either the turnabout or the reverse. I think you're right though that you can only incur up to 1 minor fault in the theory part, though as you say it can be the difference between pass and fail, and massively failing the theory might be enough that the tester will be extra hard on you as he doesn't think you should pass.

there is a list of about 40 questions they can ask. you should be familiar with them all. but don't worry too much about them. have a read through the rotr or the question list and youll be fine (I think you need to get 3/3 wrong to get a grade 1)
