I think you would have done it then, but C and now CE [formerly EC] are in the same category so you don't require a DTT unless your permit has lapsed for 5 years or more

I was in the same position c.6 months ago.

I wanted to get an EC permit (having passed my C test and recieving my full C licence in 2003). I was told that as my EC provisional licence had expired in 2005 that I would have to re-sit my Theory Test. I (reluctantly) accepted this.

However I subsequently noted in the Theory Test book (page 4 or 5 I think) where it states that 'you do not have to sit the same theory test more than once' (or words to that effect). I was annoyed to say the least!

I contacted the RSA and ended up in a lenghty discussion with a supervisor. She could not confirm where/if the law states that you MUST re-sit the same test twice. (I believe such a law does not exist). Red tape at its best!

So did you end up sitting it again or did you get around it?

OP, I did the C test in 2005 and applied for an EC learner permit last month, and did not require a new DTT. hope this helps

Well this was 3 years ago, think it was getting busy. A good few months. I was due to do mine in Dundalk because i lived in balbriggan so it was only a couple of weeks waiting up there.

Yes, I did re-sit the C/EC Theory Test a few months ago - I had no choice if I wanted to get my EC Learner Permit.
I plan on starting lessons in the coming weeks.

Anybody recommend a good instructor/school for artic lessons in Tallaght?

I don't know of anyone in the Tallaght area but I do know one of the best schools on the northside who has over the last 20/30yrs in training drivers who work for the top transport companies in Ireland.
