I've spotted a few around Dublin over the past week. Having been in a basic one a few months back I found the seat too small and not supportive.

I don't think its as good as the Duster

Just because Dacias website is so dire, here's some info

    3 engines, 2 trims (Alternative/Signature)

First one is the 1.2 as seen for a long time on the Clio. 75hp, 4 cylinders, - €280 road tax. (€9,990/€11,990)
    Next petrol is the new tce90 899cc 3 cylinder turbo with 90hp - €200 tax. (€11,090/€13,090)
    Only diesel option is the 1.5 dCi 90hp - €180 tax. (€12,490/€14,490)
    Delivery is €600
    Metallic is €500
    5 year warranty is €369

So assuming you want the proper warranty and the metallic, this is what they really cost: (Alternative/Signature)
    1.2 16v. (€11,459/€13,459)
    tCe 900cc (€12,559/€14,559)
    1.5 dCi (13,959/€15,959)

    Specs:

    Alternative
Daytime running lights, ESP, electric windows, Bluetooth, 4 airbags, central locking

    Signature
Cruise control, rear electric windows, leather wheel, aircon, fogs, alloys

It only makes sense in base spec I think

On photos alone, its looks reasonable and doesnt immediately scream cheapness like the duster does. Ive no idea how good or bad they are though.

a tce with high spec for €14500 with the warranty is still cheap.

They look alright in real life

It feels cheaper than the Duster when you are in it

A friend in China told me when they examined the quality of Dacia models in Europe and their pricing strategy plus warranty they rowed back on their plans to expand into Europe.

This guy works as an advisor and analyst in China and was working for Great Wall at the time. He said plans were advanced to enter the Euro market but have been all but shelved for now.

I think some pick ups have made it in limited numbers however

I doubt anyone thinking about a Dacia is too bothered about having the higher spec models.

Out of interest what other new cars do you get for the same on the road money or near it and how much are their on the road prices inc. 5 year warranty ?

Funny you mention about the specs, there are 3 sanderos near me and they're all the higher spec.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 463 ✭✭hellyeah

my parents bought a new ford fiesta eco-boost 1.0 zetec 5 door for 14750. thats 3k below list. dealer was doing a special before end of march.
5 year warrenty. I drive a focus (2008 1.6 petrol) and have to say i was well impressed with the 3 cyclinder fiesta.

I read before that Dacia expect 60% of Sandero sales to be of the higher spec in 1.2l form

I had a good goo at one a bit back. My impressions were; not really cheap and not really cheerful. Apart from that it looked err, new...and shiny. If you like that sort of thing.. the new might not last, or the shiny..then you've got..errrm... a cheap looking car. Which is great.

I think if you want a no frills budget new car, the base model is hard to beat.

I don't see many alternatives out there in that price bracket.

Unlike the Duster, these are available ex stock ASFAIK.

I'm lead to believe there is feck all margin across the whole Dacia range, so doubt there is any meanigful discount off list price - if any.

4 to 5% margin to be exact

Maybe other brands can compete so.

What other new alternatives to Dacia could you get for 11k inc. their cash discounts ?

Dacia is like our generations lada. I suppose if someone just does not care and wants to get from point A to point B as cheaply as possible and had no interest in things like comfort, style and performance then why not?

I'd consider that a better deal than a Sandero with options. Base Sandero is the one that makes the most sense.

Nissan don't sell the pixo any more it seems. Suzuki do the alto but its way more expensive and has less equipment. Mitsubishi have the new space star but again is more expensive but more no a par with the signature spec on the dacia.
Don't know about the chev spark. Might be in that price bracket.

Most of those would also be a size smaller than the sandero
