Level 6 Animal Care

I'm currently studying a level 5 Animal Care course and have applied to a level 6 Advanced course in dun laoghaire for next year. I'm doing well in all my subjects, except for maths. I completed my leaving cert last year and got a pass in maths, but I'm pretty certain I've failed the fetac maths module.

The entry requirements for the level 6 just say "Fetac level 5 Animal Care with distinctions in anatomy, veterinary assisting and one other module"

Maths is also part of the level 6 course. I was just wondering, even if I fail maths but got my distinctions, could I still go on to do the level 6 course and just concentrate on passing maths then? Or will I have to resit maths before going on to the level 6? I'm very confused, help would be much appreciated!

    Thank you. :)

It is really up to the individual college but if they state a particular course is an entry requirement then they want you to have completed that course by passing all modules involved. If maths is part of the Animal Care award then you won't get the award if you fail maths - you will just get component certs for the modules you passed.

Thanks for the reply! So will I have to take another level 5 course again, or can I take the maths module on its own? :/ Would my pass in the leaving cert compensate for anything? Thanks again.

You should be able to repeat the maths module - it will be up to your centre whether you need to attend or whether you can just repeat the assessments. Colleges accepting FETAC students into Level 7 and 8 courses usually require that you successfully complete your FETAC award in one sitting - Level 6 providors are usually more lenient but you would want to check with the college in question.

I had a look at the awards directory and maths is not actually a mandatory module for Animal Care so you could replace it with another module from the list and still get the award. Whether the college will accept students into the Level 6 course without maths is up to them though.
