MALAHIDE SHOW BRINGS IRELAND'S VERY FIRST CAR HOME
On Sunday 19th May the Grand Hotel Malahide will play host to the 2nd Malahide Classic & Vintage Show a charity fundraiser by Malahide Lions Club.

The first petrol-driven car in Ireland, a Mercedes Benz Velo Comfortable, was imported in 1898 by Dr. John Colohan then owner of the Grand Hotel. The car, now fully restored and owned by Motor Distributors Ltd. is due to make its first return to Malahide, arguably the birthplace of Irish motoring, in over 100 years and to be the centrepiece of the Show.

Full details including how to register your classic or vintage model for the Show are on www.malahidelions.com/carshow.htm

We hope to see you there for a great afternoon of motoring nostalgia and family fun.

    Best wishes
    Malahide Lions Club

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Dr. John Fallon Sidney Colohan painted the hotel pink to celebrate his favourite drink, Pink Champagne, of which he consumed a hefty daily supply :)

    Stickied.

I think that clashes with the IVVCC Jubilee run. Oh well, but if the weather is good it should be a great day.

AFAIK Dr Colohan was living in Blackrock when he imported the car?

No the Jubilee Run is the following weekend. And even if the weather isnt great there is an indoor element and the hotel facilities! No excuses then!

Pretty sure Thinkingaboutit is correct... IVVCC Rally starts on the 17th and not back until the following Tuesday.

Golden Jubilee Tour Friday 17th to Tuesday 21st May 2013 (copypasted from IVVCC site), so sadly it does:(. If actually doesn't rain, it'll be a great day out.

You're right Thinkingaboutit, the dates clash.

However, not everyone is going on the Tour and over 70 owners have registered for the Show with 4 more days to go. Cars include a 1904 Speedwell, 1910 Singer, 1928 Austin Tourer, 1930 Armstrong Sidddeley, 1946 Hillman Minx, 1954 Austin Somerset, 1961 AC Greyhound,. 1971 Jenson Interceptor, 1980 Ferrari Testarossa.

Half of the Show site is under cover and a hot lunch in the Grand Hotel... Its going to be good whatever the weather.

Hope to see one and all for this fundraiser in aid of St Francis Hospice and other causes.

You could very well be right. A quick google showed that he imported the car in 1898 but that he didn't buy the hotel until 1910

What a fantastic day with incredible weather!:)

Some quotes from drivers who participated:

"Thank you to all the Lions Club volunteers and the sponsors for a very pleasant day yesterday at the Grand Hotel. We, the Triumph Classic Owners Club, Ireland had eight Triumphs there yesterday, everyone had a most enjoyable day in the relaxed sunny atmosphere, was akin to being on holidays in Spain! Lunch superb, plenty of helpful staff from the Grand, all in all top marks to all involved. Please email me in advance next year on the date for the show."

[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]"On behalf of the Lancia Club, thanks for a great day today - everything was really top notch and myself and the other Lancia people really enjoyed the event. It was particularly sociable and relaxed and the organisation, facilities (and in particular the catering!) were really impressive!
    Well done to all concerned
