    Hi,

    Thinking of buying this car

    http://www.carsireland.ie/detail.php?ad_id=920817&r=s.php%3Fm%3D63%26o%3D871%26l%5B%5D%3D21%26yn%3D2005%26g%3D0

Will be my first and mainly for driving in dublin at weekend and the odd drive to mayo and back (maybe every 6 weeks or so)

I can get it for 3,500

Just wondering has anyone experience of driving a similiar car (just want advice on it's fuel efficiency, etc especially for driving on a motorway)

    Thanks:)

They are a poor car that aren't very well put together. Id avoid and hold out for something better built and more reliable. E.g Yaris

    I'd pass on it OP.

Get a polo or a yaris. The 3 cyl engine in the corsa is a noisy piece of junk.

    Cheers,

I have driven it a few times and seems nice to drive, especially the steering but not that you say it there is a bit of an annoying hum from the engine! thought it might be something wrong with the engine but you think this is normal for a 3 cyl engine to be a bit noisy?

    Right, cheers for that,

Have you heard Corsa's are not reliable or from experience?

Just curious as the owner has said she hasn't had problems with it but I guess I can't be sure..

I used to own one and yes they do tend to be a bit noisy particularly if poorly serviced.

As for reliability I never had any real issues with it but they're a boring bland car and don''t really hold any kind of re sale value.

I'd be looking at something like this if I were you basically a polo underneath.

From experience. They are one of the most unrefined 3 cylinder engines out there imo. They also give steering rack trouble and other niggly issues.

A polo of the same vintage isn't much better in reliabilty terms compared to the Corsa. They give timming chain trouble and aren't that refined either.

Tbh for a small car id probably be going for a late mk1 Yaris because they have a 4 cylinder vvti unit that is much smoother than the engines in the Corsa and Polo The Yaris is also much a better built car than both with far better reliabilty.

Traded a corsa for a polo at the time night and day in comparison. Much better 3cyl engine and interior finish was better quality. Both the corsa and the polo were the higher spec models.

Corsa? Better off walking or using public transport.

They are crap. A poor excuse of a transportation device

I'd easily recommend a yaris over 1 and I hate them quite a lot!!!

If you're doing lots of motorway miles get something bigger and more refined, for your own sanity

    I have an '01 Corsa.
I think they're grand cars. A bit rattley and the gearstick is pretty jammy but comfy enough and just the right size in my opinion.
But I more or less inherited this car. Definitely wouldn't pay €3,500 for it.

There is nothing wrong with the corsa
Its easy to work on and cheap to repair.
While they can have their faults EVERY car does
Its basic motoring but unreliability isn't an issue.

Hijacking this thread a small bit..

Can someone show me a decent yaris for sale on Done Deal (Or any other site)?

Definitely don't want a Corsa.. I'd setlle for a polo or a Seat.. I'd be interested to see a yaris in comparison

Why does this get repeated time and time again?

Some cars have a lot more faults than others, simple.

Maybe its because every time a corsa is brough up the same few reply with steering rack as if every corsa has the same problem. There is a 99 corsa in my family and its still on original stearing rack in fact the only issue its had is rear wheel bearing that was bought for €12.50

Dont get cheaper motoring than that.

The 99 corsa is a different model to the car in question and is also not a very good car paricullarly in 1 liter form.

"the same few" obviously have more experience working on these cars than you as you are talking about a completly different model. The 00-06 model "the same few are talking about" gives lots of steering rack problems and a lot of 00-06 model Corsa's suffer from steering rack issus along with other issues.

They along with the previous model are one of the worst superminis out there.

    Corsa 1L 12v 1999 is same engine as 2001 to 2003

But don't let facts get in the way of your opinion.

Does it have the same steering rack aswell? Seeing as how we're arguing semantics :D
