Best places to buy whiskey?

I've had a search, and found the usual suspects (Celtic Whiskey Shop and Mitchell & Sons) but want to know if there are any other off-licences (preferably in Dublin) with a decent whiskey range at a reasonable price.

So where do you whiskey-drinkers go?

PS. I saw boards that Cheers off-licence in Palmerstown used to do Redbreast 12yr for €33 back in 2010. Anyone know if this is still the case?

    Thanks!

My local O'Briens have recently got in a big batch of new whiskeys. Varying from cheap rubbish to a 25 yr old Scotch for €197.

We tend to buy either from the Celtic Whiskey Shop, or www.masterofmalt.com.

Celtic Whiskey Shop or the O'Briens in the Beacon Quarter Sandyford are the two places I tend to buy if I am getting a bottle in Ireland.

Yeah, they are good. Celtic Whiskey shop is still the best place to go though.

Cheap whiskey offers atm that I've found:

    Bushmills White - Dunnes - €18
    " Honey- Tesco - €22
    Black Bush -O'Brien's - €22
    Tullamore Dew - SuperValu - €20

    Anyone spotted any others?

Powers 700ml is twenty quid in Dunnes atm.

I can see all them gimmick whiskeys with honey and whatever else being flogged off soon enough. Can't see either whiskey or non-whiskey drinkers buying into them.

Devenney's in Dundrum have a bottle of the Jack Daniels Honey open for sampling. Ruth gave me a taste and I couldn't even finish it. The taste reminded me of Yankee Candles. She said (with a very confused look on her face) that it's flying out though.

The best place to buy irish whiskey or any whiskys in my opinion is abroad or in duty frees.

If you were inclined to buy a few high end whisk(e)ys. it would pay you to take a day trip on a cheap flight.

Have a carry on bag, and jam half a dozen of bottles into it.

You are only allowed to import 1 litre of duty free though or 10 litres if you are coming from within the EU, but then you are still paying duty.

I've heard Middleton VR is about £70 a bottle in Stanstead. Back when a Euro was £.90+ it certainly would've been worth such a trip -maybe not for Middleton as it's very overrated/priced imo but that'd give you an idea of the higher end Irish whiskey prices in British airports (dunno what Belfast is like tho...). I bought a litre of Black Bush for £20 a few years back, the conversion came to less than €25 at the time.

Looks like Black Bush is going for €23 in O'Briens at the moment: http://www.obrienswine.ie/spirits/spirits/irish-whiskey/bushmills-black-70cl.html

There's a shop in Munich airport that has great value. Laphroaig 18 for €63 and plenty of other value too. If you're flying through Munich check it out, it's the supermarket in T1 before you go through customs.

O'Briens currently have Powers at 20quid for 700ml and Dunnes have a litre for 30quid. It's crazy that in Ireland the higher priced whiskeys are well, highly priced everywhere. I think Redbreast is now pushing 50quid iirc. Used to be 35.

Has anyone seen redbreast 12 or jameson 12 on offer anywhere at the moment, I want to pick up a bottle as a gift?
