and he is now pushing for a divorce from Holland which she obviously wants but needs to be sure that the divorce will be recognized
in Ireland. He has sent through divorce documents in Dutch and told her to use google translate to read them.He has said hes dutch solicitor
said the divorce will be recognized in Ireland.Have not got a clue how this cross border divorces work just hope someone here might have information or knowledge on the laws??

I know nothing about the law but telling someone to use google translate for divorce papers is a pretty cúntish thing to do. Surely, the best thing to do would be to get the divorce in Ireland seeing as (I assume) they both speak English.

his excuse is that a divorce in ireland takes 5 years and hes a dutch national and it takes a matter of weeks to go through in the netherlands.the problem is all the documents are in dutch which is a huge problem obviously.we have no problem signing the documents but just want proof in english that a divorce processed in holland is legally binding in ireland.to be honest we would prefer the faster divorce option just to wash our hands of this guy.

Can't get legal advice here, any family law solicitor will be able to answer this question quickly. It would also be advisable to have the documents translated.

A divorce with a separation of less than 5 years is subject to review when it comes to remarriage and issuing a marriage licence. My wife and I were forced to marry in the North as her US divorce would have to be scrutinised by the Irish judiciary to allow a wedding. They also wanted the consent of her ex that they were actually divorced. She had no way to contact him, so we skipped over the border, and tied the knot under more sane legislation.

If at all possible that she may want to marry in Ireland, an Irish divorce would be preferable, however the 5 year waiting period is frankly (to use the legal term) batshit crazy
