Physio for back pain

    Hi all
I am/was always very physically active football/golf/kayaking, anything outdoors but the pain or discomfort recently stops me from doing anything more than going to work for a few hours then home to lie on the couch.
I had a nerve root block procedure in oct 2012 due to a burst disc at L5s1 with a lot of pain relief once it settled down, say 10 days.
Then in December I was involved in a car crash. The pain came back immediately but the symptoms were different. Before the pain was even across my lower back and down my right leg into my foot, but now it's more severe in my lower back and ends and is severe in the back of my calf. Consultant wants to try another NRB on another nerve.
I could be waiting 4-6 weeks for this and with the sun out its killing me not being able to stay active. A walk to the local shop and back, about 1km, I need to lie flat for an hour til the pain goes away.
Diefene or diclac give some relief but I'm taking these over a year now.
I've tried physio pre oct 2012 but the guy wasn't a specialist and made me worse tbh.
I'd like to try specialised physio this time round, I'm in dublin but I'd travel if it was worth it
    Thanks

I think the best person to guide you in relation to a specialised physio would be your Neurosurgeon, he may know of one. In my case I tried everything from physio to nerve blocks (over a 3 month period) and it didnt work and I have had 2 l4/5 microdiskectomies & cyst removal and the relief is great.

I have had a number of back problems for a number of years and have always struggled to find a good physio. Last year i started going to North East Physio in Drogheda (i think they also have a practice in Donagmede in Dublin). They are specialist in treating backs (http://www.nephysio.com/) and I find them excellent.

I used Kilkenny Physiotherapy Clinic when I injured my sacro-iliac joint a few years ago, after months of public physio and getting nowhere. They were great, also treated there for arthritis, with excellent results again.

Im earmarked for surgery myself in a few months. Wont bore you with the details but I'm finding 30mins of Pilates each morning does help. It starts me off well on my day but with 4 to 5 hours I'm bojangled again.

Neurosurgical advice regarding physio would be my favoured route

I have heard of a guy in Galway City who is supposed to be excellent. PM me if you want his name. I haven't used him myself but two guys I was speaking to on the matter, one guy only in late 20's and had 2 operations for lower back problems and was supposed to go for a third operation, didn't have to after visiting his clinic. Might be worth trying.

    Hi op

I had disc and nerve problems and went to David Dalton in physio.ie. slow process, but I am back running now with little or no discomfort. . can't recommend him highly enough. I didn't need any procedures in the end.

I can recommend these guys www.dbc.ie The work with specialist machines that train back up the muscles you need to hold your back together. Worked very well for me.
