Helmet saved my life yesterday.

Did 70km yesterday, seemed to have a tight IT band so it was a slow and steady 'recovery' spin. Hit the 60km mark fairly close to my house, so instead of taking the left (to get to my road) I continued on into town and back home.

Traffic was fairly busy and the rain was coming down so I was super careful. Young lady (obviously just off school) waiting at the lights, the regular traffic lane stationary but the cycle lane/bus lane was completely free, we had the green light aswel, what does she do? Crosses right in front of me, I scream, she screams, I pull my brakes but its too late. Fortunately (for her) I hit her schoolbag at a fair speed and it sent me flying, managed to crack my head off the kerb aswel. Few bruises and what not but for what happened, I count myself very lucky.

The helmet took the brunt of it, if I hadn't have been wearing it Id be looking at a possible broken jaw, eye socket, nose and numerous other brain related injuries. This is not a you are foolish for not wearing a helmet thread, but after close to 7500km on the bike accident free, Ill certainly be keeping it on!
