A bit old but I never saw it appear here. The BAI have put up an update on the expressions of interest regarding the licence renewals for the existing services in several parts of the country.

1 expression of interest was received for the following areas:
Cork City and County: Music-driven radio service; Target Audience 15–34 year olds RedFM

Cork City and County: Two services to be operated under a single contract, as follows:
    Broad-format, local radio service C103

    Music-driven, local radio service 96FM

County Kerry: Broad-format, local radio service Radio Kerry

Counties Carlow and Kilkenny: Broad-format, local radio service KCLR

County Kildare: Broad-format, local radio service KFM

Dublin City and County: Music-driven service with a focus on new music; Target Audience 15-34 year olds Spin1038

However, 2 expressions were received for:

South East Region – Waterford City and County, South Tipperary, Counties Wexford, Carlow and Kilkenny: Regional, Music-driven radio service; Target Audience 15 – 34 year olds Beat 102 103 (existing) , Power FM (new)

North Donegal: Broad-format, local radio service Hiland Radio (existing), Mr Patrick Simpson (new)

County Sligo, North Leitrim and South Donegal: Broad-format, local radio service Ocean FM (existing), County Mayo Radio Limited (new, had an @midwestradio.ie address so presume this is North West Radio)

Counties Laois, Offaly and Westmeath: Broad-format, local radio service - Midlands 103 (existing), Midlands Broadacsting Company (new)

Dublin City and County: Niche music driven service Sunshine 106.8 (existing), Easy FM (new)

The only service I listen to with 2 expressions is Beat, can't see them losing it tbh, Power FM didn't get it in 2003 so probably won't get it now

What happens if Beat loose it? They shut up shop and are replaced by PowerFM?

Dunno but is Power FM linked to one time pirate ABC Power 104?

Old geezers fact - Power FM was the name of a proposed regional station back in the mists of time.

edit Its the same person Colm Dunphy (unless there are two of them) Dunphy was on ABC (in its last era) and on ABC Power 104. Interesting.

thats what could happen, or their could be a large gap in service for a while which i believe is what happened with the transfer from radio kilkenny to KCLR? it could be a CKR/K situation where CKR closed and K was on a day or 2 later? i can't see beat losing the licence though

The 2004 losses all involved fairly clean transfers, its unlikely any bid that didn't have a clear chance of getting on air at the required time would be even considered.

CKR pulled the plug early to hinder the 'natural' changeover to K-FM.

Is Easy FM the same Easy FM that has the Saorview radio carriage agreement ?

The exact same one. Rumour has it that Easy Fm have a very strong application both fiancially and with experienced names in the radio industry.

With County Mayo Radio Limited having a MidWest Radio email address, is it possible for North West Radio to make a comeback after almost a decade off the air?

If so, I'd like to think they'd update the format from what they used to have, and still have, on MidWest Radio. The current audience (mostly elderly) are literally dying off, and they'll need a new image to entice new listeners.
