Ive found "click" in the eyre square/corbett court shopping centre to be extremely helpful, they assess your computer free of charge and contact you before going ahead with any repairs

Always got good service from lapteck.

Alternatively, what is wrong with it that we might be able to help with?

It's just slowing down, slow to start, program's taking good while to start.

TBH with the aid of google / computers and tech you'd be able to solve this yourself pretty quickly.

Yes to this , it's well worth giving it a bash yourself. Most of the programs and resources you need are free. The boards.ie computer/laptop board can be very helpful with advice on where to start.

I'd say firstly delete any programs you don't use and then start either deleting files you no longer need or move them to an external hard drive. Run your virus scanner and try running http://www.malwarebytes.org/ too . It's free and easy use.

They're just basic starting off points but do give it a shot before you go shelling out money on someone who'll likely do exactly the same things and charge you.

If you type msconfig.exe into the runbar there's a tab for startup programs.

Turn off any programs you're familiar with you don't need to start up at boot time.

yeah, before you go to the professionals, go to Filehippo.com & download Ccleaner (not a typo) and run the cleaner & registry cleaner functions; also look at Tools- Startup & see if there's anything in the startup list that you can disable (don't delete just to be safe).
then download Defraggler (made by the same people), run its default defragmentation (in its options set it to shutdown after it's finished).
and yeah, scan with a free virus checker (avast! is good) and also malwarebytes. if none of that helps then go professional, I've found pcgp.ie a good fella.

Thanks for all of the advice...you make it sound so easy running all these program's and clean ups!! I'll give it a go, don't rate my chances of understanding what the feedback is though!

I can do it for you but to be honest you can also do it yourself. Download those programs jkforde mentioned.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    http://www.piriform.com/defraggler/download/standard
    and run both.

That alone will speed up your laptop.

Windows (I am assuming you use Windows) has a habit of just getting slower with time, and needing a fix. If you have Win 7 hold onto it, it's the best one they did, if it's Vista, well.....I have it but never boot into it.
