Sore @rse Cheeks, Advice

So without dragging this forum into a unsavory, low brow and childish discussion, which I’m sure would be foreign territory for Boards. I need some advice on getting over saddle sores.

I have never suffered with this before. But last night I cycled home in the lashing rain for 2 hours with a soaking arse. I threw in a few hills around the Naul on the way and I’m sure my wobbly, rear all over the place hill climbing technique didn’t help. That combined with some rather dashing cheapo Aldi shorts has resulted in my derier being rather sensitive and sore today. Its effectively a friction burn and I'd like some tips on how to recover quickest from it. Have a long spin planned for the weekend and the Tour of Sligo the weekend after.

Lashed a bit of the Babies nappy cream on the cheeks last night but I don't think that’s helping.

Any advice welcome. (Hope this is not considered medical advice by the way :))

    Thanks.

    Better shorts
    Chamois cream
Time for your arse to get used to it

Better shorts and vaseline applied before setting off will reduce chafing. You can also get that Bodyglide stuff but its pretty pricey.

I have better shorts. Only usually wear the cheapo one on short spins. I'm looking more for the cure than the prevention :)

Friction between your shorts and botty may have increased with the shorts being soaked. Go back to a pair shorts that have never caused problems and don't change. Ever.

For future wet cycles, a bit of Vaseline in the region may help as it is oil based and repels water.

(So it has come to this. I'm on the internet advising another man to rub Vaseline on his ar5e. Good bye internet, it was nice knowing you.)

Only messing internet. You fill the gaping void in my soul. I'll never leave you.

On reflection, I don't think a open public forum this was the best platform to raise problems with my backside. Just got some weird PM's

When I started I doubled up on padded shorts

Too much padding/material between the saddle and the gentleman's region can cause friction issues.

In answer to your original request for a cure, try Compeed blister plasters. These will get you through until you get the region toughens up. Very useful in summer when heat and moisture are the problem.

A friend of mine used to rub methylated spirits into his regions.

He said that this caused the skin to thicken & harden.

Bye bye to sensitivity and saddle sores.

    Old Skool he was.

He didn't even need a saddle.

Someone on here recommended surgical spirits and spot cream. Worked a treat for me.

And I now suspect cause of saddle sores may have been due to, in some way, over use of chamois making things too moist down there. I've now cut right back.

Interesting, did one of your close "friends" tell you about that or were you talking to the Barman?

Other night I woke up with what I hope anyway were two fairly large saddle sores on my left arse cheek. More like blisters to be honest. I've been cycling from Tallaght to Dun Laoghaire to college most weekdays since February and don't have any proper cycling gear. A few days ago after getting home from college I went to sleep for a few hours and just woke up with two reddish lumps on my arse. I think they were on their way to forming into blisters. Would these be saddle sores or some sort of friction blister? Thanks.
