Did we even have the USC back then

Whatever it was, sticking in a return form costs you nothing, and you might get something back.

Just be careful if you had 2 jobs in same year , and one job paid less than exemption .

When Revenue are balancing your P21 , they will add your total pay together from both jobs , and you could owe them , rather than you owed ..

USC is not based on stand-alone P60 , but is cumulative , and charged on total earnings in tax year .

What could I do before looking for one?

Actually any way of getting a tax statement going back a few years?

As you have been working 2 jobs , its possible that you have overpaid tax .

Apply to you local tax office for balancing statements from 2009 onwards .

I had to complete a 2008 tax return before the revenue would pay my 2012 rebate.

Turns out I overpaid tax in 2008 as well, but they are refusing to refund this as it is outside of the four year cut off (even though I would have to pay them if I had underpaid!).

Is it worth appealing or is this an absolute decision. The are quoting S865 of the 1997 act, which states ten years, but I believe this was subsequently changed to four years.
