Dell Inspiron N5110 won't turn on

    Hi,
I got dell inspiron N5110 a couple of months ago. I went to serious effort taking it apart to put in a solid state drive. I think I didn't put it back together correctly as it used to turn off at random times. Not crash, as in suddenly there was no power no lights etc. and I'd have to turn it on again.

Obviously in hindsight I should have looked into the problem at this time, but I got lazy as it didn't seem to happen that often....I assume ye know where this is going.....Now it won't turn on.

I hear 7 beeps which would indicate a cpu problem. I fear that maybe the cpu fan wasn't working and it was over heating and has now damaged the cpu permanently. Anybody recommend my best next step? should i buy a new cpu? or open it up and see what it looks like inside? I fear my incompetence has led to this situation so think it might be time to cut my losses and bring it into a shop! It's still under warrenty but I assume I've voided that? I don't want to replace the cpu if I'll be back to the original problem and it will happend again :(

I got an external case for it and sent it to a friend as a birthday present! So can't turn back! It wasworking for a couple of months with the new hard drive...I supsect I didn't re assembly correctly... Can't send it back to them with the incorrect hard drive....quite a pickle! IF a processor is burnt out can you see it by physically looking at it?

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Who ever signed off on the design of the N5110 should be shot. And then hung.

Replacing the hard disk is a motherboard out job. OP, there are some very good videos out there on line. Google until you find one you are comfortable with, take apart the laptop and step-by-step assemble it again, carefully watching the video

    Better luck this time!

I'll give it a shot the next time i feel like i've the patience! But what worries me is that it worked for a couple of months and would cut out randomly...but now has stopped....I fear the processor was over heating and is now damaged! I'll give it a shot though! Mabe it was just loose?

Took it all apart and put it together again...seriously who designed this! Tried it but still didn't work, then before i put the keyboard on I noticed the power ribbon coming from top left looks a little damaged, as if it was being pinched....when i first installed the hard drive had an issue with this cable...so disconnected and reconnected and it powered up that time. Now I realise that this cable was obviusly getting pinched and that why it would power off randomly....fingers crossed it just got more damaged and couldn't supply the processer with enough power! IT seems logical to me as I went nowhere near the processor and the fan was working so it couldn't over heat! Didn't have a ribbon and I'm going fishing tomorrow so left it in with the computer guy aroud the corner (he wasn't there so couldn't confirm my susupcion!)

Does these seem reasonble to some of ye guys? Don't want to get my hopes up but I'm quietly confident! would be so happy if that's all it was!
