I am looking at getting back into laser sailing after a few decades away from it!

Can any give any advice on where there is good club laser sailing in Dublin.

I am aware that Howth has a good Frostbite league but thats a bit hardcore for now.

I see Malahide has 3-6 boats out during the week in the summer months.

    Any advice would be great.

I did try the Laser Ireland website but I cant seem to register.

    Thanks

Skerries might be worth a try if it's not too far.http://www.skerriessailingclub.com/lasers.html

I don't think the summer dinghy racing is restricted to juniors in Howth. I've never raced dinghies out of Howth so I wouldn't personally know, but you could always ring and ask whether it tends to be a mixture of adults and juniors or pretty much all juniors.

Malahide and Sutton both have fairly active Laser fleets. If it comes down to either of them and distance isn't too much of a factor, I'd suggest checking the sailing area of both clubs to see which you'd prefer, might decide it.

Thanks for all the quick replies.

I am based in Baldoyle so I am really spoilt for choice - Howth, Sutton, Malahide, and then some of the clubs in North County.

Ideally I'd like Howth as the facilities appear to be superior. Having had a quick look on the sites it appears that Sutton, Malahide and Skerries only have very small club fleets.

I'll get on the phone to Howth or maybe even take a trip up there when the lasers are sailing to see the profile.

The summer dinghy sailing in Howth only started last Sunday and was only 2 lasers out. I think most of the frostbite guys only do lasers in winter and back to keel boats for summer. Fleet might pick up during summer when the kids are finished uni and school. Good offer on membership in howth as well for year. only €150.

You might also try Rush Sailing Club - details on www.rushsc.ie.
A very approachable bunch of people, they (used to and maybe still) have a VERY informal Laser frostbite series; usually for charity; racing skill is frowned upon; goodies laid on for afters, etc. Boats can usually be borrowed and you may be able to persuade an owner to allow you use a boat all year.

Not my club - no axe to grind - but their "sailing should be fun" ethic suits me!
