S3 freezing/ powering off - can't clear Touchwiz cahse etc

    HI for the past two weeks my Samsung S3 is powering off I think - in as much as totally black and unresponsive until I force start.

    It also freezes multiple times - the screen being unresponsive - eg if i was typing a text the last letter I typed might be highlighted and the screen locked like a screenshot

    I trying googling it and people seem to suggest clearing touchwiz data and clearing touchwiz cache

    When I follow their directions it does not bring me to a clear data option : e.g
    Clear the data for TouchWiz Home: Menu>System Settings>Application Manager>TW>Clear data. - does not bring me there

    I am also told I should clear touchwiz caches - but when I find it in settings its greyed out - i.e. I cannot select

    I installed wechat a few weeks back and am guessing this is the problem - for example I had to restart the phone maybe 7 times in a five minute exchange of messages .

    I know the obvious thing is to un-install but I am trying to save the messages first (seems impossible) as I am traveling to China in the Summer and this is the only way they really communicate

    I was going to try backup the phone with Kies but I always get an error at some point - but would be willing to do anything to sort this problem - ideally a solution where 1. the phone functions without freezing 2. I can retain or re-install wechat until I get to China

    Sorry a long post - any ideas welcome , especially first off on how do I clear touchwiz cache - I can see it in settings but its not highlighted - i.e I cannot select it

    just bumping

    took off the app but the phone is still acting crzy
    freezing but not as much but it powers off and on again at oddest times - have woken at 5 am to the phone restarting


    also Avast is giving me a load of error messages - 150 problems - I don't know if its a related issue
    "invalid context during scan" - I googled solutions but they don't work
