Looking for a Strava premium promo code. They used to do 3 month trials but I can't find one. Would like to see if its worthwhile before I shell out 60 bucks....

I think those days are gone! I got the best part of a year FOC at one stage! Happy to pay the €5 a month now - well worth it IMHO!

Don't think premium is worth the money, but I think Strava is. Would hate to see it close, that's why I pays my monies.

I tried to get a 3 month trial off them recently, they weren't having any of it. They told me I should pay for a month first to see if I like premium.

Aye Premium is not worth it, but keeping the site going is, proves how hard it is to successfully monetize a good internet concept.

Micropayments are the way to go I reckon.

Rather than collect $60 a year from a small minority of users, charge everyone $5 a year.

Acceptable to most people given it's popularity. Removes obligation to add extra features with limited utility for premium users.

@Vlad - I can see where you are going with micropayments but IMO they should pitch it at a higher price than say a fiver.

Think of it this way - forget that it is a training aid. Ask yourself is it fun, sonyou derive enjoyment out of it?
If so, how much is that worth in a year? No compare it to other expenditures.
I spend about 60euro every few weeks on chocolate. How much do you in general spend on booze, kebabs, general unnecessary crap. I bet it's easily more than the cost of Strava.
Strava is a but of fun and may help some as a motivational tool/training aid/discovery of new routes etc.
Easily worth the money over the year.

I've been thinking of getting premium for the same reason as Buffalo and many others, but to be honest what I think I'll do instead is buy some of the Strava-branded cycling kit. The benefits of going premium are so small, i'd sooner have the Castelli bibs or jersey.

I remember when people were getting all their "free" upgrades there was a general feeling that paying the actual fee was not worth it, and there were questions over Strava's "business model"

Maybe they were and indeed are getting it right - they have now built up a core following and are presumably getting more and more premium members, as much because people like the "service" rather than the extras that premium brings

Maybe Vlad is right, and smaller fees are the way to go, but I suspect that they are getting enough people paying at the current level and will continue with the current set up until they start seeing a significant drop off in new premium members. Then I think they may consider either dropping the price to encoiurage more, or making it a subscription only but much lower priced service

TBH, from what I've seen, I think the way they have grown their business has been pretty impressive

BTW, I was one of those that paid the full whack for the first year, then let it lapse, but will probably pay again shortly - again more to support what they do than for the specific benefits it brings

If they start charging, even a fiver, people will stop using and go back to using garmin connect or whatever else is out there. At the moment strava has a large audience to sell to, even if people are only giving to help upkeep the site.

Possibly some will, but I barely bother naming my rides on Garmin Connect. Strava is far more engaging and social*, the only reason I bother about uploading anywhere else is because I'm paranoid about losing data, but too lazy to export every individual ride.

*social in the Internet sense, anyway.
