Wheel query

Quick query, I have a set of Mavic CXP 22's on my specialized allez, they are the standard wheel that came with it. I have 4500km on them. There is play in the hub on the back wheel and it is grinding. Brought it to my LBS who replaced the bearing but with no improvement really. He reckons the hub is done.

My query is are they worth repairing, or should I just pick up a set of aksiums, roughly 150 without tyres? Would the aksiums generally be an improvement on the CXP 22's?

Just to note, I'm hoping to pick up a new bike in the next month or so, possibly the Rose Xeon RS, which comes with Kyrsium Elites. My Spech will be relegated to a winter bike so not looking to spend anymore than the 150 mark.

Bidding on a new aksium rear wheel here is 85. Also Seller says best price online is 133 on chain reaction cycles.

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=90336

Why buy a set when all u need is a rear?
Also let him know that u can get a set for 150.?

    Now I'm confused.

That's €149 with tyres by the way.

The WTS in the name = "Wheel Tyre System".

You can't but a Aksium wheelset without the Aksion tyres that come with it.

It must be their way of getting rid of those crap Aksion tyres.

    Ha, probably!

Still though, Aksium's and a set of tyres for €150 is buttons! Cheapest I've seen online was €205.

And it's always handy to have something laying around for emergencies, or something?

I have an Allez with those CXP wheels and have also noticed some squeaking/clicking/grinding noises coming from the rear wheel recently. I've over 10,000 km on it at this stage though, plus one crash where a set of handlebars got lodged between the spokes! There's a bit of play in the hub, I reckon it's on it's last legs.

From what I've heard Aksiums are very good wheels, looks like a great deal at €149. I'm not looking for anything too light or fancy as I'm mainly using the bike for commuting (although possibly some A4 racing too if I get my act together!), I might see if I can get a set before they're all gone!

For what it's worth I called them up a while ago and asked about this. They don't come with tyres apparently.

Strange, they call it WTS on their website.

They are the 2 year old model though, not the Aksium S from last year/this year, so maybe they are just trying to shift old stock.

    Still a brgain.
