Got a pass to do this in June 15th

I know there are loads of threads but just have some quick questions

    1) Any irish tour operators

    2) Is it best to use a tour operator

    3) would a compact gear set be enough

Anyone who did it with in 100 hours is it pushin it to the limit or relaxing-ish

Any other info would be appreciated

Did it last year with a gang from here.
I'm 91kg - a compact is plenty. Several lads did it on standards.

100 hours - plenty of time. To put this into context. We did it when 3 of the days were unbearably hot - as in 40-44 degrees. Astra Monti & myself got pretty bad heat stroke. So we had to pace ourselves. We were going very slowly. Despite this we did it in about 97 hours.

We had a van supporting us and this was invaluable.
It was very doable. In terms ofnthe climbs there are really only four long climbs:
    Aubisque - stunning
    Tourmalet - horrible just horrible
Peresourde - can't remember this at all
Palihere - few meters shorter than Tourmalet and very very long.

Once you get over 1400m things get ugly. Out of tree line and everything is barren. I hated how dry and ugly e drugging looked. Below 1400m the climbs are out of this world stnning. Forests/waterfalls etc.
Great craic and I would highly recommend it.
Since 1950 only 5000 or so cyclists have completed the raid.
I would go back to the Pyrenees if I could in that it is a very nice area.

Main thing is to pace yourself, and expect 12 hour days. Are you doing hendaye - cerbre or other way round? As rok on said, the van was invaluable. There is a big thread on it if youdo a search. I want to do it again.

Is OK chef, if you pace yourself.

Van was a camper.owned and driven by a friend of mine. He took all bikes and gear, met us in hendaye and followed us along the route.
