New to sky and saorview advice.

Ok so here is my setup:

Whole house (new build) networked and cabled. Put up the dish and ran the co-ax underground for tidiness. Until this morning I was running the FTA channels through an old sky hd box and a white FTA sky card and saorview on the tv's with built in tuners.

Because I did the graft I rang sky to see what I could get as the missis likes the ability to record but also loves the sky UI and I'll be honest it is the best and fastest UI compared to some of the alternatives.

I got a good deal on the normal sky package and will keep it for 12 months as I hope to go sky tv and internet once my 12 month contract with eircom is up.

Since I have 2 sky hd boxes now I am going to run the FTA box through RF through the new "official" sky box.

Is there any way of me changing channels of the FTA box with a magic eye if the rf is coming out of the "official" sky box? or will I need to go to the box to change the channel each time? (all network and tv units are in my office)

Is there any hints and tips for a sky user? If I add channels from the sticky do they only appear in the other channels?

Regarding saorview, Is there any way for me to boost the signal without needing a plug in my attic?

    Any comments are appreciated.

Use RF2 for magic eyes,go to installer menu on the box to make sure the power from RF2 is on.

If you are using Sky HD boxes for FTA then they'll be stuck on the Irish EPG,so ITVhd etc will only be available via other channels, get FTV cards for them to unlock the UK epg. There's numerous threads on how to get FTV cards free (contacting Setanta is one way)

    Slightly off-topic, but
check with your neighbours on what the Sky broadband is like, as some people are hating it, but some are liking it. Seems to depend on where you live.

I guess I meant ftv card. I have the uk epg on my old hd box. I already had this running off magic eyes throughout the house but now it is replaced by my official sky hd box that I got this morning. I will still run the old box though a different rf channel. I hope I am explaing this right so here we go:

My old HD box with the UK epg is output through the rf2 which in turn goes into the aerial input of my official Irish epg box which is sent around the house. Is there any way for me to change the channel of the first box or will the magic eye only work with the irish epg box?

Cheers, I believe that it runs through eircom so I would hope it would be the same as the eircom net I am currently on.

Only one way to find out . . . Don't know myself if the remote commands will pass back through RF-in.

Anyway, even if they do, there's a chance the remote will operate both boxes at once, as they're both HD. Try it & see.

You might need a combiner that can assign a port to each remote, so there's no mix up.

Yeah guess I may find out after work.

Looks like I found my answer(somewhat):
    http://shop.satelliteonline.co.uk/global-spc4-super-plus-combiner-312-p.asp

Means I would need to install the remote to whichever sky box I want to control, or have 2 remotes in every room

You can use a masthead amplifier in the attic. These have a remote power supply unit (PSU) that sends low voltage DC up the aerial cable to the amplifier itself.

If the signal is really weak & there's a fairly long cable run from aerial to attic, the amplifier would be better off outside, nearer the aerial (this is where it gets the 'masthead' name).

The amplifiers are available in single outlet (could be used with a splitter) & multiple outlet versions. Twin outlet PSUs are also available.

Same line, yes, but instead of sharing it with X people. you share it with Y, and it seems this will (from reading the broadband threads reading Sky) ensure that after 18:00 your broadband will go to sh|t.
